    (optional)
  • One bow
  • Curling ribbon, one white and another in the color you choose
  • Twist tie

Newborn gifts come in all sizes and shapes. The above picture shows a cute bundle that's easy to make, and the parents will most likely never open it so as to remind them of a sweet present from a friend or loved one. Here's how it's made.

Cut a piece of white curling ribbon about 20 inches in length and set it aside.

Place the newborn diapers on a flat surface, open side up. Stack the diapers on top of each other. Roll the diaper stack together in a circular fashion starting at the end with the baby's leg openings. Roll them as tightly as possible, as the stacked diapers are thick and offer some resistance.

Tie the white curling ribbon in the center of the rolled diapers, and knot the ribbon. This step is awkward because you must keep the diapers rolled while tying the ribbon around the bulk. When done, tie the remaining curling ribbon ends into a shoelace type-tie.

Gently insert the plush animal rattle into the middle top of the rolled diapers. This is easily done if the bottle of the rattle resembles a bone shape. The rattle shown above has two legs, and those legs were inserted into either side of the diaper's folds.

In either case, insert the rattle as low as possible for security but not so far that it's not viewable on top.

Cut another piece of curling ribbon of any color, about 30 inches in length and set it aside.

Cut a piece of cellophane about two feet in length and place it onto a flat surface. Place the gift atop the cellophane, in the middle. Bring the cellophane firmly around the gift on all sides, and secure it with your thumb and index finger at the rattle's midsection. Tie the cellophane around the rattle's midsection with the curling ribbon as you remove your hand.

Make sure the cellophane is smooth all around the diaper and rattle as you tighten and knot the ribbon. The cellophane edges above the curling ribbon enhance the gift's appearance, fanning upward and outward in creative fashion.

Add a bow to the front, directly atop the rolled diapers, and curl extra curling ribbon so it cascades downward around the gift.

Curl one star spray and insert the stem in back between the rattle and cellophane. If you've never seen star spray, it's the product shown in the photograph on the right.
