What you need:

  • Shirt-sized gift box

  • White wrapping paper

  • Black-and-white checked wrapping paper

  • Black ribbon

  • 1/8 inch of black felt

  • Glue

Do you see the shirt, tie, and vest in the upper right-hand corner of the picture on the left? It's all made from wrapping paper and ribbon.

A talented gift wrapper teaches store managers and their staffs how to re-create this gift box packaging, which is especially popular for Father's Day and general men's gift giving events.

Like any other type of gift wrap ideas, this type of wrapping is not difficult once you master the cutting and gluing process.

Set the white wrapping paper open on a table, right side down (facing the table). Place the shirt box on top of the wrapping paper, and close the paper around the box just as done in a regular closure process.

Cut black ribbon approximately 15 inches in length, and tie it similar to a man's necktie. The ribbon tie is glued in the middle and about one inch above the top edge of the wrapped box. The slightly-elevated height resembles its position if it were actually tied around a man's neckline.

The black-and-white checked wrapping paper is added on top of the white paper. As you close the paper around the box, determine where to fold the paper in the front in a "V" pattern, crisscrossing slightly in the middle.

The center edge that runs vertically in front is folded and creased for a clean, straight edge. Glue the crease and hold it firmly until secured, making sure that the ribbon tie is inside of the black-and-white checked paper.

Cut three small circles to resemble buttons using the black felt. Glue them to the front of the black-and-white checked paper with about two inches of space between each circle.

To make a pocket, cut a rectangular shape, two inches by four inches, from the black felt, and round the two bottom edges so they resemble semi-circles. Set the pocket shape on the left side of the box and glue it in place.

Last, create a shirt collar by cutting a three-inch by nine-inch strip of white wrapping paper. Wrap the strip around the top of the box, allowing the ends to meet in the front with a slight overlap above the ribbon tie. Carefully glue the two bottom ends onto the wrapping paper, and glue the two top ends together in an overlapping position.

Your wrapping paper shirt is ready for presentation.
